Dr. Ashok K. Madan's lifelong commitment to education began well before the completion of his doctoral research in Statistical Demography from the University of Western Ontario. Following years of teaching and contributing research on demographic, sociological, and psychological data to conferences across the world, Dr. Madan founded Metromath Learning Centres in 1995 with the goal of providing affordable and comprehensive educational services to students of all ages and abilities.
Initially structured as an educational centre located in Toronto, Dr. Madan transitioned the practice to a virtual platform in 2018 where his team offered tutoring services across a variety of STEM and language courses. Metromath quickly became a leader in virtual learning, allowing Dr. Madan to build a comprehensive multimedia portal to deliver lessons and materials as well as a strong team of educators certified by the Ontario College of Teachers.
Metro Virtual Academy was founded in 2020 with the same guiding principles Dr. Madan embraced over 25 years ago—an equitable approach to inclusive education, individualized instruction, innovative and dynamic teaching methods, and a supportive learning environment for all students. Dr. Madan and his team recognized the demand for an alternative educational model to tailor the learning experience to meet the diverse needs of today’s students, allowing them to start their courses at any time and proceed at any pace, no matter their circumstances. Within the past year, the team has grown exponentially to include department heads, curriculum and content developers, administrators and online educators, all under the unified vision inspired by Dr. Madan.
Students may enrol at any time and have up to 12 months to complete each course. Students proceed at their own pace and create their own schedules! Permission from the student's home school is not required.
